Exhibition “Art and fire” : contemporary ceramics in Belgium

The exhibition will present recent works by 19 Belgian potters, from the north and south of the country, both figures internationally known as well as new talent.
It reflects the creative ferment of Belgian artists, the diversity of modes of expression and personalities. One can recognize some streams :
  • the diversion of found objects (Caroline Andrin),
  • installations (Coline Rosoux, Coryse Kiriluk),
  • the poetry of the goldsmith’s work (Nathalie Dean, Mieke Everaet, Lut Laleman or Thérèse Lebrun),
  • the architecture of Jean-Claude Legrand,
  • Antonino Spoto’s explosion of vivid colors or the unbridled graphics of Vincent Kempenaers.
  • Do not forget Yves Malfliet’s ruthless corrosive spirit and crazy scenarios
  • or Peggy Wauters who offers her couch full of fluff with ceramic faces, more disturbing monsters than “comforters” for children.
This kaleidoscope of ceramic creation, reminds us that Belgium is at the crossroads of languages and cultures, both northern and southern, fruit of successive rulers of the past centuries, salutary shock of the cultural diversity that makes it’s wealth.
